HAWKES & SONS
Denman Street, Piccadilly Circus, London

Founded in 1830 by William Henry Hawkes, it became a famous London firm of musical instrument makers who produced a wide range of woodwind and brass.
In 1930, they merged with Boosey and in 1955 took over the famous firm of flute makers, Rudall-Carte. In 1981 they acquired
Buffet-Crampon and are now one of the largest makers and suppliers of musical instruments.

One of the famous flutes which where manufactured by Hawkes & Son was the famous Crown AZ Flute.
The Crown AZ logo used on their range of flutes

In the early catalogues, Hawkes and Sons advertised the Crown AZ flutes as being supplied to the Brigade of Guards and the
Ulster Amateur Flute Band.

These flutes were made of the finest seasoned black African cocus (or ebonite), with six forged nickel silver keys, strongly made and mounted on pillars, with broad finger on D# key, tuning slide head with metal, perfected large bore with finger holes.

Today, these flutes are highly sought after and are regarded the best by many flute players around the World.

Other flutes which where manufactured by Hawkes & Son were:

Hawkes & Son, 'Improved Army or Guards' Pattern' Model Bb Fute

Hawkes & Son, 'London' Model Bb Flute
