MARCHING DRUMS

The Fife and Drum Museum owns over 70+ marching drums from Rope to Rod Tension.  The earliest drum in the collection was made by Hewitt's in Belfast and was purchased by Thomas Alvin Mullan in 1890.  The Drums have been collected over the last 50 years by Alvin Mullan Snr from Enniskillen.  Also in the Museum is a collection of Military Drums from the Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers, Royal Irish Rangers, Ulster Defence Regiment and the Royal Irish Regiment.

From time to time, we display the drums at private exhibitions and have displayed at the Waterfront Hall in Belfast, the site of the Battle of the Boyne and at the Residence of the President of the Republic of Ireland.  We also do joint exhibitions with the Ulster Cultural & Historical Society and have travelled throughout Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.

Hewitt Rope Tension Drum
The Nail Board in the letter 'H' means this drum was manufactured by Hewitt's of Belfast.  This drum is probably the oldest in our collection, it was bought in 1890.
